Data, Analytics
& AI, done plainly.

Senior analytics advisory for financial institutions and growing businesses — without the deck, the jargon, or the six-figure invoice.

We do three things: audit data and AI strategy for senior leaders, build LLM- and ML-powered applications that do real work, and ship the production systems that put those models in front of real users. Two decades combined inside financial services means we know which claims hold up and which collapse on contact with production.

Focus
Financial services, mid-market banks,
SMEs with a finance function
Practice Areas
Strategy audits · LLM & ML applications
· production systems & integrations
Engagements
Fixed-scope, fixed-price audits,
sprints & builds. No retainers.

Three ways to engage · One practice

Pick the one that sounds like you.

For Financial Institutions

You lead analytics at a bank, lender, or asset manager — and the board keeps asking "what are we doing about AI?"

You don't need another vendor pitch. You need an honest second opinion from people who've built these functions, shipped these systems, and know which AI claims hold up under scrutiny.

Flagship Engagement
AI & Analytics Maturity Audit
£3,500 · two weeks · async
  • Written assessment of your current data & AI posture
  • LLM / ML use case review — what's realistic, what's hype
  • Prioritised roadmap with realistic time-to-value estimates
  • Vendor & build-vs-buy review for your top 3 use cases
  • 90-minute executive readout with your leadership team
  • 30-day follow-up call to stress-test decisions

For Growing Businesses

You run a real business — and your data lives in six tools, three spreadsheets, and your head.

You don't need a six-month digital transformation. You need a single clear dashboard that shows you what's happening, connected to the tools you already use.

Flagship Engagement
The Data Clarity Sprint
£1,500 · two weeks · fixed
  • A one-page KPI dashboard you'll actually open each morning
  • Connected live to your stack (Xero, QuickBooks, HubSpot, Shopify…)
  • Built on Power BI or a hosted web app — your call
  • Optional: an AI assistant that answers questions about your data
  • 60-minute walkthrough so your team can run it without us
  • 30-day check-in to tune what's working

For Teams Ready to Build

You've got the strategy. You need it shipped — properly, into production, by people who've done it before.

Most analytics projects die between the pilot and production. We specialise in the unglamorous middle: the cloud architecture, the .NET and Python code, the CI/CD, the integrations that make a demo into a system your team actually uses.

Flagship Engagement
Production Build Engagement
£8k–£15k · 4–8 weeks · fixed
  • Scoped production system — LLM app, ML pipeline, or internal tool
  • Enterprise-grade: .NET or Python, Azure or AWS, proper CI/CD
  • Integration with your existing systems and data
  • Agile delivery with weekly demos — no black-box handovers
  • Documentation, tests, and a clean handover to your team
  • 60-day post-launch support window included

What the work looks like

Two decades of production work, translated into evidence.

1,500 hrs
of manual reporting automated annually through Python pipelines and AWS Lambda workflows
£2m+
incremental revenue enabled through segmentation models and predictive analytics
40%
reduction in production support tickets after standardising a portfolio management reporting process
LLMs
production applications built using transformers, RAG, and agentic workflows for document-heavy finance use cases
The Practice

Two principals. Complementary disciplines. One fixed scope.

A.E.
Analytics · AI · Strategy

A decade leading analytics inside a global bank. Writes the Python, trains the models, builds the LLM and ML applications, and explains the whole thing to boards in language they can act on. Runs the Analytical Banker newsletter.

  • LLM applications & RAG systems
  • Transformer fine-tuning for finance
  • Forecasting & segmentation ML

FatCat Analytics is a small independent practice. Two senior principals, no associates, no pitch decks, no offshoring. When you hire us, the people in the first meeting are the people doing the work.

Most consultancies in this space sell the partner and send the associate. Most freelancers can advise or build, but rarely both at production grade. We sit between those extremes on purpose — senior enough to tell you what's worth doing, hands-on enough to ship it.

"We'd rather do three engagements a month well than thirty poorly."

We work across the full stack of modern analytics — from classical ML and forecasting, through LLM applications and agentic workflows, to the production systems and cloud integrations that make those models part of how your business actually operates. The point isn't the tech. The point is whether it changes a decision, saves an hour, or makes you money. If it doesn't, we'll tell you.

Scope is fixed. Price is fixed. Timelines are honest. If an engagement isn't a good fit — for you or for us — we'll say so on the first call. And if you just want a second opinion before signing a big contract with someone else, we do those too.

A.E. writes about this work weekly in The Analytical Banker. If you're here and not ready to engage, the newsletter is the best way to see how we think.

Honest answers to the questions people actually ask.

Why fixed price? Why not hourly?
Because hourly billing rewards the consultant for working slowly. Fixed-scope, fixed-price means we agree on the deliverable, and we take the risk of scope. If we're efficient, we earn a good rate. If we're not, that's our problem to solve.
Who is this actually for?
Two groups. For financial institutions: heads of analytics, CFOs, COOs at UK mid-market banks, specialty lenders, and asset managers — typically £500m–£10bn in assets under management or lending book. For growing businesses: UK owner-led companies and scaleups, roughly £1m–£50m turnover, with enough data scattered across tools that clarity would change decisions.
Do you build things, or just advise?
Both, properly. Between us we write the Python and the .NET, train the models, build the Streamlit or React apps, wire up the Power BI dashboards, fine-tune the transformers, set up the CI/CD, and deploy to Azure or AWS. We've shipped RAG systems over financial filings, agentic workflows for document-heavy processes, classical ML forecasting pipelines, Azure migrations for legacy trading systems, and the boring data plumbing that makes all of it actually work. We also advise when that's the more useful thing. There's a public GitHub with some open-source tools — if it helps to see the work first, start there.
What if I need something outside your three flagship offers?
Tell us. We'll either quote a custom scope, recommend someone better suited, or honestly say it's not something we should take on. Short custom engagements (5–10 days) are common — the flagship offers are just the most productized ones.
Will you sign an NDA?
Yes. Standard practice. We'll often send a mutual NDA before the first substantive conversation if we're discussing confidential specifics.
How do I know if this is worth a call?
If you're reading this, it probably is. The 20-minute intro call has no deck, no sales pitch, and no obligation — we'll tell you within those twenty minutes whether we can help or not.

Let's have
a proper conversation.

Twenty minutes. No deck. No pitch. Either we can help, or we'll point you to someone who can.
